Emotional Intelligence (EI) is the ability to be aware of, control, and express your emotions and to handle interpersonal relationships judiciously and empathetically. An understanding of EI improves self-awareness, increases accountability, fosters communication, and builds trusting and productive relationships in the workplace. Effective leadership or being a great team member is heavily impacted by your EI and everyone benefits by becoming more intelligent about emotions.
During this course, participants will discover the five components of emotional intelligence according to the work of Daniel Goleman. Jamie will take participants through the basics of what EI is and recognize behaviors associated with a highly developed emotional intelligence including the different elements of EI and characteristics associated with self-awareness, social awareness, and relationship management. Participants will also explore the Five Keys to Successful Conversations that meet the five criteria of emotional intelligence and create a personal plan to grow their skills around EI.

Training is effective when a trainee can successfully apply outside of the classroom the knowledge that has been accrued throughout the training process. Many staff members today are being asked to present and train others on material where they have subject matter expertise. However, most of these staff members have never received training themselves on how to give an effective presentation or how to expertly transfer their knowledge to students.
During this course, novice trainers will gain a strong foundation in critical training skills, while seasoned trainers will be introduced to new approaches that will lead to more impactful, compelling training for even the most veteran presenter. This course will emphasize the processes that lead to a successful and effective classroom experience, highlight best practices in training, clarify the difference between target and task, and define the needs that are specific to your company’s needs. Participants will also learn how to effectively manage students, engage a variety of learning styles, and create a positive learning environment while simultaneously regulating classroom challenges.

This course will combine the evidence-based practices of interpersonal neurobiology with integral communication models such Non-Violent Communication (NVC) and Motivational Interviewing to teach participants respectful, collaborative communication strategies. This systemic approach teaches the communicator how to utilize both empathetic listening and needs acknowledgment, and how to open the door to behavior modification requests and/or generate greater sales. The participant will learn how to listen effectively, discover limiting beliefs, dispel labels, define what the window of somatic tolerance is, understand one up-one down thinking, explore the role of power and identity in communication, and investigate the difference between impact and intention. This course will ultimately enhance every participant’s idea of what it means to be heard and respected and how to powerfully communicate through identification of core needs.

There are four distinct learning and communication styles and when we understand this and are skilled at shifting approaches depending on our audience, the results are dramatically improved. This is a diversity issue and the course is based on neurobiology, specifically the brain science behind how people talk, and listen and it impacts how they receive what we are trying to say. It impacts the effectiveness of our meetings, one-on-ones, and those quick moments at the water cooler. All of these things help or hinder our success, time management, and workplace culture.
Participants will learn how to immediately identify the learning and communication style of the person or people they are talking to so they can meet that person where they are by shifting their language in small, subtle ways. Jamie has taught thousands of learners this simple technique that they were able to apply immediately and he has heard from hundreds of past participants how this course has improved their relationships at home and in the workplace.
